OBJECT OF THE GAME

There are lots of different ways to play and be successful at UWH. This document will be the start of the process where we all make sure that we understand our terminology and can communicate our style of play. Please ensure that you speak up (or ask for a translation) for anything you do not fully understand. Not understanding only means we may have different names for the same effect.

The object of the game is to maintain puck possession and force your opponent to make decisions.
UWH, like many sports, is fundamentally a game of read and react. Goals come as a result of keeping the puck away from your opponent and then waiting for them to mis-read/react in a way that gives our team the advantage. This does not mean that gaining yards is wrong only that our first priority is to keep the puck. Plays that do not meet the object of the game are termed high-risk and players must all take personal responsibility for 'high-risk' plays that fail.

It is very important that all players understand this philosophy because it only takes one player who does not understand what we are doing to ruin a complete team strategy.
